The PGP is a program that enables Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada.
The Canadian Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino has announced the details of parents and grandparents sponsorship at a press conference held in Surrey British Columbia shortly after 5 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST) last Tuesday and he explained that the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will feature a lottery once again.
The lottery will take place the week of September 20, 2021, after which invitations will be sent over the course of two weeks. Those invited will have 60 days to submit their sponsorship applications to the Canadian government.
This and other details of the PGP 2021 were unveiled by Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino at a press conference held in Surrey British Columbia shortly after 5 p.m. Eastern Time today.According to the announcement , Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will draw 30,000 applicants who had submitted an expression of interest to sponsor family between October and November 2020 during last year’s program intake application period.
During that limited time window last year, eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents were allowed to fill an application form informing IRCC that they would like to sponsor their parents and grandparents for Canadian to live permanently in Canada.
Later in January 2021, IRCC made a draw which resulted in randomly choosing 10,000 potential sponsors. IRCC said back then however that 30,000 more applicants would be additionally invited this year again using the same lottery process. It added that the candidates who expressed wish to sponsor in 2020, but were not invited to apply, may be considered in the upcoming PGP 2021 lottery selection.
Nevertheless IRCC recommends applicants to ensure the information they submitted on IRCC’s website last autumn remains up to date,especially their contact data.
